DESERT HOPPING with Baptiste and Naomi

... my lovely colleague Barbara, who's in LOVE with Baptiste Giabiconi ever since someone took their photograph backstage at Chanel earlier this month, brought to my attention the SONG he recorded in late 2010 - that's obviously something everyone amply commented on when it came out, but I must say that I did totally miss this CULTURAL HIGHLIGHT (and am not so incredibly fond of supermodel miscellanea anyhow). When I watched SHOWTIME earlier this week, I was struck by everything that's, uhm NOT SO SPLENDID about it of course, and I must say I am not totally convinced that the slick kind of beauty Mister Giabiconi incarnates is my cup of tea. The desert hopping in SHOWTIME, among other things (quality of vocals, for example) reminded me of another supermodel-turned-singer episode that took place in the 1990s - I'm talking about NAOMI CAMPBELL's debut album BABY WOMAN (my oh my...), which I would very eagerly have loved to be able to like, but somehow the LOVE AND TEARS track was really always the worst one on all the mix tapes that I recorded for my bus and train journeys back then. Well, yes, the olden days, amazing, no? You can still watch Baptiste as well as Naomi perform on Youtube, so you'll be able to make yourself a (comparative) opinion, too, right ...

... j'étais bien évidemment la seule personne de la planète, de l'univers de la mode au moins, à ne pas saluer en bonne et due forme la chanson accompagnée d'une vidéo de Monsieur BAPTISTE GIABICONI, une œuvre musicale intitulée SHOWTIME et qui doit être sortie à un moment donné en 2010. Bon ben. Heureusement (?), c'est ma collègue Barbara qui y a dirigé mon attention la semaine dernière (faut-il ajouter que Barbara est absolument amoureuse du beau Baptiste depuis qu'on les a photographiés ensemble en arrière-scène chez Chanel ?), ainsi que maintenant, fort tard, c'est tragique, je suis AU COURANT. Ouf. J'avoue qu'il n'est pas moche, le Baptiste, loin de là. Mais en même temps, cette beauté "parfaite" me fait penser à une poupée en plastique, je ne sais pas, je pense qu'il me manque la sensualité et la chaleur humaines en lui (je suis en train de dire N'IMPORTE QUOI, je le sais bien). De toute façon, c'est marrant d'entendre parler Baptiste Giabiconi avec son très fort accent du Midi, je pense qu'il est originaire de Marseille, en tout cas c'est là que l'on l'a découvert. Et ces CABRIOLES DÉSERTIQUES ainsi que la performance pas tellement tellement convaincante en termes de puissance vocale, on va dire, m'ont rappelé le vraiment déplorable, euhm, TUBE (?) de NAOMI CAMPBELL aux années 90, vous vous rappelez, eh ben ouais, c'était LOVE AND TEARS, et le titre était programmatique, en quelque sorte, on va dire ...

hard to tell: is he beautiful in a high-fashion-way, Baptiste, or is he just a slick and cheesy guy?

... riconosco che sono probabilmente L'UNICA E L'ULTIMA persona che vive sul pianeta della moda a non essersi reso conto dell'INCOMPARABILE CANZONE che ci ha dato l'anno scorso l'INCREDIBILMENTE BELLO Baptiste Giabiconi - almeno è così che lo vede il GRANDE KARL, mentre io, ve lo dico francamente, lo trovo un po' INSIPIDO, quel ragazzo (l'unica cosa che forse mi piace è il suo ACCENT DU MIDI, è stato scoperto à Marseille e deve proprio essere di lì...). Comunque, la sua canzone, SHOWTIME, e il video - ma non so proprio. Imbarazzante, quasi, no? Ma le capriole che fa nel deserto (dove cerca di conquistare l'irresistibile ragazza che viene trattata così male dal suo CATTIVO ragazzo, avrete capito che la storia che il video appartiene piuttosto al genere MANICHEISMO...) mi hanno fatto pensare all'apparizione di NAOMI CAMPBELL nel video di LOVE AND TEARS, canzone del suo primo album BABY WOMAN - un'altro esempio delle non così fantastiche occupazioni laterali delle vedettes della passerella. Allora showtime, sono tentato di dare ragione a quel tizio cattivo che, in un dialogo MOLTO PROFONDO dice al bel cantore/eroe: "Home is calling. Why don't you get there while you still can?" E la casa che lo sta chiamando a sé, mettiamo che si tratta dello studio di Karl e, più in generale, della moda, ed eccoci che lo compreniamo perfettamente, quello scellerato, è così o non è così ...
