... first of all, I really consider it a beautiful idea of the German/French TV station ARTE to put together a FASHION WEEK sprecial ("curated", we're told, by no other than Karl Lagerfeld himself), so this is definitely a good option to dive into the world of fashion on TV, a rather rare occasion I must say ... je vais tout de suite vous le dire : j'adore l'idée de la chaîne franco-allemande ARTE de présenter à ses spectateurs un petit cadeau très à la mode, à savoir une SEMAINE DE LA MODE télévisée, consistant de films, de documentaires etc., une sélection faite par Karl LAGERFELD d'ailleurs, une belle occasion d'explorer l'univers de la mode au-delà des magazines où elle trouve sa place la plupart du temps ... forse ve ne sarete resi conto anche in Italia, ma penso piuttosto di no: la stazione di televisione franco-tedesca ARTE ha dedicato l'ultima settimana nella sua programmazione alle SETTIMANE DI MODA, con l'aiuto di Karl Lagerfeld (un bel personaggio nel contesto delle relazioni tra la Francia e la Germania, non vi pare?), ci sono tanti film e documentazioni da vedere ...


... a particularly nice part of the ARTE FASHION WEEK is a series of documentaries directed by LOÏC PRIGENT, no stranger to the genre of fashion documentaries by the way, entitled THE DAY BEFORE THE SHOW, and besides Fendi, Donatella Versace, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Diane von Furstenberg or Sonia Rykiel, the wonderful, upcoming, talented and, by the look of it very very LIKABLE (I know, not the sexiest word...) fashion duo PROENZA SCHOULER (that's of course Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez) allow Prigent to film them during the 24 hours preceding their fall 2009 show (which must have taken place in February 2009, then) ... la série de documentaires LE JOUR D'AVANT réalisé par Loïc Prigent, qui s'est spécialisé dans cette sorte de productions, est une partie particulièrement réussie de la semaine de la mode sur ARTE. L'équipe autour du directeur accompagne, pendant les 24 heures qui précèdent leur défilé, des créateurs de mode. On y retrouve Karl Lagerfeld chez Fendi, Donatella Versace (qui surprend, je n'aurais sûrement pas pensé qu'elle est aussi gentille que ça...), Sonia et Nathalie Rykiel ainsi que d'autres. Mon épisode préféré est dédié au duo Jack McCollough et Lazaro Hernandez, les deux designers derrière la jeune et très promettante griffe PROENZA SCHOULER à New York ... una parte della programmazione che mi piace particolarmente sono le documentazioni realizzate da Loïc Prigent intitolte IL GIORNO PRIMA DELLA SFILATA, una serie di produzioni nelle quali accompagiamo Donatella Versace, la squadra Fendi, Jean-Paul Gaultier e altri durante le 24 ore precedendo la sfilata. Tra gli accompagnati: Jack McCollough e Lazaro Hernandez della griffe PROENZA SCHOULER a New York ...

another thing reminiscent of the Valentiono-Giammetti couple: the pet-dog Jojo (one could also feel tempted to think of Thomas Kirchgrabner, Vienna-based designer of the fur brand Liska, but that would really be a rather unpleasant thought, so let's just not do it, okay?)

... apart from everything else, and I really recommend you watch this documentary online as long as it's still there, it's amazing how Jack and Lazaro, who are a couple and met at university already, work together and encourage each other ... je trouve très impressionnant et même, touchant, la façon de travailler ensemble de ces deux jeunes hommes, qui se sont croisés à l'université et travaillent ensemble depuis leur collection de fin d'études ... trovo molto impressionante e, come dire, anche emozionante di vedere come quei due bei giovani lavorano insieme, da quando si sono messi insieme per realizzare la loro collezione di laurea non si sono mai più staccati l'uno dell'altro ...

and prominent admirers they've got for sure, Anna W. of course but also Ikram Goldman, the Chicago-based boutique owner who's also in charge of filling Mrs. O's closet, more or less

... and another thing that came to my mind: the two of them remind me of some of the power couples in fashion, Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti, Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé, or even Karl Lagerfeld and Jacques de Bascher in a way, even though what's so special about them is that they are two creative minds, not one designer and one commercially oriented genius ... une autre chose à laquelle j'ai pensé dans ce contexte-là : Jack et Lazaro m'ont rappelé les POWER COUPLES du monde de la mode, tels que Yves Saint Laurent et Pierre Bergé, Valentino Garavani e Giancarlo Giammetti, peut-être même Karl Lagerfeld et Jacques de Bascher, quand bien même ce qu'il y aurait de spécial dans leur union, c'est le fait qu'il y a là deux génies créatifs qui se sont réunis, non pas un créateur et un homme d'affaires ... un'altra cosa alla quale Jack e Lazaro mi hanno fatto pensare, infatti, sono le coppie illustrissime della moda, pensate pure a Yves Saint Laurent e Pierre Bergé o Valentino Garavani e Giancarlo Giammetti, forse persino Karl Lagerfeld e Jacques de Bascher, sebbene ci sia qualcosa di molto speciale nel caso di PROENZA SCHOULER ed è che, appunto, qui siamo confrontati ad una unione di due spiriti creativi, non è uno che fa il designer mentre l'altro si occupa della gestione del marchio, eh no, ed è quello che mi piace (insieme a tante altre cose) - NON PERDERE il film sul sito di ARTE dove rimane disponibile fino a mercoledì prossimo, mi raccomando ...
