... hello everyone - just a quick one, an in-between-the-holidays reminder of the importance of lifestyle (ahum, yes, *right*...). In the Christmas and New Year's edition of our beautiful magazine, we included a little lookout for lifestyle trends that could become (or will remain) important in 2011. A humorous take on things is well advised, I should say. My predictions: fragrances by fashion editors will hit the market big time, Karl Lagerfeld will NOT quit his job at Chanel (and Haider will remain a fling-for-a-second thingy), François Marie Banier will continue having a good time, Austrian fashion label Femme Maison may become the country's next (?) "big" thing in fashion and, yes, that's just about it. And as a matter of fact, all of this may just as well be wrong guesses. But that's what predictions for the New Year are all about, aren't they? ...
... quelques mots, après Noël, avant la fin de l'année qu'il faudra bien sûr fêter en bonne et due forme, je voudrais vous renvoyer au petit panorama qu'on vient de publier dans le numéro de notre magnifique supplément de la semaine dernière, y inclus, parmi d'autres choses, la tendance lancée par la fabuleuse Anna dello Russo (qui, en ce moment-même, semble jouir de la paix de Kérala où elle pratique du yoga), à savoir, des PARFUMS PORTANT LE NOM DE REDATRICES DE MODE. Est-ce que ce ne serait pas une beau passe-temps pour Carine R., désormais à la recherche de nouveaux défis, comme on dit si bien (si elle ne les a pas encore identifiés...) ...
... sull'ultimo numero della nostra magnifica rivista, abbiamo incluso un aperçu di ciò che potrebbero essere (diventare, rimanere ...) i più importanti trend dell'anno che viene. Tra altre cose, i profumi che portano il nome di qualche STAR FASHION EDITOR, un modello lanciato dalla yogissima Anna dello Russo, come sappiamo tutti. E io vi dico, Anna, alla testa di Vogue Parigi, mentre Carine R., prossimo "naso famosissimo" dietro un profumo (unisex, magari) che indosseremo tutti la prossima estate, in versione "light"... Non siete convinti? Eh, bo', ma se ve lo dico io ...

... peu s'en faut pour qu'on puisse se voir incité à penser à ANNA KARENINA ou encore ANNA KARINA, en s'ingéniant à deviner qui pourrait suivre à Carine Roitfeld dans le poste qu'elle vient d'abandonner chez Vogue Paris. Commencent à courir des bruits, et en effet : pourquoi pas Anna dello Russo, hein ? Au moins, cela ajouterait une dimension intéressante au concours transatlantique, Anna vs Anna désormais, et le monde latin resterait représenté dans cet intéressant de jeu (lo stile italiano remplaçant le savoir-vivre à la française). Même si, et c'est là, peut-être, le point essentiel de l'affaire, j'ai du mal à imaginer pour de vrai qu'Anna, après tout omniprésente dans tous les blogs, après tout depuis peu parmi les vedettes qui vendent leur propre parfum, après tout quelqu'un de très intimement lié à la nouvelle culture en-ligne de la mode, puisse effectivement occuper ce poste infiniment important dans la mode ? Mais vous savez quoi : tant que ce n'est pas Bryan Boy qui s'impose (ni en tant que version modifiée de André Leon Talley, d'ailleurs), je me tais et suis tout content...
... è possibile, oramai, che il gioco Anna (W.) vs. Carine (R.) sia sostituito da una nuova versione, Anna (W.) vs. Anna (d.R.), per ciò che si tratta della gara transatlantica tra Vogue US e Vogue Paris (tutto, s'intende, perfettamente messo in scena da tutte le persone interessate, per aggiungere un po' di pepe alla faccenda)? Comuque, corre voce che Anna dello Russo potrebbe occupare tra poco il posto che Carine Roitfeld ha appena liberato. Per fare che cosa, ci chiediamo? Del consulting, come si dice. Anna dello Russo, niente profumi dunque? Siamo molto eccitati, ovviamente, ma tra poco sapremo già più cose ...

I had to inverse the order of languages a little, given the fact that this concerns Vogue Paris and the rumour that Anna dello Russo, the Italian fashion starlet, could succeed Carine Roitfeld at the head of Vogue Paris. Does it make sense to seriously believe that? I mean, both of them are kind of the same type of person, slender, in very good shape, endless legs and short dresses, more often than not, and "stile italiano" could just about suffice to replace "savoir-vivre à la française". On the other hand, with Anna dello Russo being so prominently and ceaselessly featured all over the blog world, and with her ranking among internet-related fashion personalities, and don't forget about her own blog - do we really think that Anna dello Russo could take over? I'm not sure. But you know what? As long as it's not BryanBoy, I'm just about fine ...
... a quick, last-minute pre-Christmas shopping tip: Paris-born fashion designer and networking professional Camille Boyer, a French expat living in Vienna (of all places) after teaching fashion in Shanghai, doesn't only dedicate her energy to organising and coordinating various fashion-related events in this city, she also runs a shop - Lindengasse 25 is the address where "Camille presents" is written on labels that dangle from carefully selected designer clothes. Check it out, will ya? ...
... Camille Boyer est née à Paris mais vit et travaille dans la mode à Vienne. Surprenant, non ? C'est la vie, et l'amour, qui l'ont amenée ici. Tant mieux pour la ville. Après avoir travaillé en Chine, après son premier séjour à Vienne, elle est de retour et consacre sa creativité, son humour et son énérgie (last but not least) à la mode viennoise de laquelle elle s'occupe dans plusieurs contextes. Pas le moindre : sa propre boutique, sise Lindengasse 25 dans le 7ème arrondissement de Vienne, où elle vend des pièces choisies des collections de designers qu'elle déniche à Berlin ou à Paris, ou même à Vienne ...

Oppure piuttosto, del retroscena... Vi raccomando dunque, e di viva voce, il suo negozio di moda, Lindengasse 25, con una bella selezione di pezzi creati da designer internazionali ...
... we all know about the inherent dynamics of fashion and the potential of temporary shops etc etc. (we all know about this, among other things, because I recently covered the topic in quite an extensive article ...) Anyhow, up next is a three-day pop-up-store initiated by young designers Rani Bageria and Leonie Leuenberger, both of which are extraordinarily talented and have got a lot of things to show (and sell) off. I would vividly recommend, therefore, that you pay them a visit in Rauhensteingasse 5, 1010 Wien, from Dec. 16 - 18, 10 am - 7 pm - and I hope that we're gonna see more of these young ladies very, very soon ...

... when I walked past Vienna's relatively young candy institution CANDYDOC for the first time, I found there was a decidedly New York fresh chic to it, which you may like, or dislike, whatever. Apart from the fact that Candydoc looks the way it does, I found it amusing that next door, the jewellery shop TAGUA LATINA seems to be the exact replicate - also concerning the kind of PICK AND MIX kind of shopping system. Both are very long shops, and in both you can select from a wide range of (a) candy pills and (b) tagua pearls for your DIY jewellery sessions ...
... très newyorkais, je trouvais, la première fois que je suis passé devant. CANDYDOC est un magasin qui vend des pillules sucrées, donc des friandises, surtout des bonbons si je ne me trompe, sous forme de médicaments. Damien Hirst ? Laissons tomber. Marrant : juste à côté, la boutique TAGUA LATINA occupe un local de la même forme, étroit et long, et fonctionne selon un système très semblable : "pick and mix", ici des bonbons, là des perles en ivoire végétal ...

Mentre da Candydoc si vendono caramelle in piccole bottiglie da medicina, accanto c'è un altro negozio, molto simile (perché anche la forma, lunga e stretta, è simile) che si chiama Tagua Latina dove vengono venduti elementi per dei gioielli fai-da-te. Scegli e vinci ...

To remind us that - even for those who won't receive Karl Lagerfeld's ever-so-beautifully photographed (attention: irony) Pirelli calendar, it's time to get prepared for 2011. Back in the (g)olden days of the seventies, being practical was very much à la page. At least in Italy, obviously. You could learn why it was ever so important to apply a face mask, how to make a bathrobe from towels and, of course, find a sewing pattern for a BATWING T-SHIRT ...
... en écoutant "Se telefonando", chanté par Mina et composé par Ennio Morricone hier soir, je me suis souvenu, inconsciemment peut-être, du calendrier de l'année 1979 que j'avais donné en cadeau à mon chéri petit ami, et dont (calendrier, pas petit ami) je voulais parler dans mon blog depuis fort longtemps. C'est bien ça, hein, loin de l'opulence visuelle concoctée année après année dans les pages du calendrier Pirelli (je ne suis décidément pas fan de la version pour 2011 - vu que je trouve qu'il existe de bien meilleurs photographes que Karl Lagerfeld), le calendrier archi-pratique "all'italiana". Fabriquer un t-shirt à manches chauve-souris, un peignoir à base de serviettes - ou comprendre pourquoi c'est essentiel d'appliquer des masques de beauté. Eh ben, existe-t-il encore des calendriers ainsi, à l'an 2011 ? J'en doute ...

Nel 1979, tutto ciò, e tanto più - nelle pagine dell'agenda che ho trovato qualche tempo fa in un atiquariato a Vienna. Assolutamente adorabile, e così pratico. Vabbene, forse un po' meno recherché che la versione Pirelli che è appena stata pubblicata, ma, e sono sicuro che sarete d'accordo, più utilizzabile nella vita d'ogni giorno ...
... that's good news on the FRAGRANCE FRONT - everybody's - and especially David Lachapelle's - darling AMANDA LEPORE, the infamous NYC-based transsexual star, released a fragrance which is now available in Vienna, too (at the Tiberius store). Apparently, if you want to smell (like) Amanda, this is the right potion for you. ParisVienne aficionados are of course familiar with Amanda from my (alas, defunct) DOPPELGANGER series. The perfume was created by Christophe Laudamiel, who, together with Christoph Hornetz, set up the "Les Christophs'" label of cutting edge perfumers - they also create the scents for Humiecki & Graef, the "perfume librarians" from Germany, who I was lucky enough to meet earlier this year ...
... en ce moment-même, j'essaie de me souvenir de la chanson "Amanda", qui, par contre, n'a rien à voir avec le parfum qu'Amanda Lepore a lancé et qui est maintenant arrivé à Vienne. Amanda est vraiment un personnage très fascinant, mystérieux et extraordinaire (un peu moins qu'Amanda Lear, mais tout de même) - je suis donc curieux de sentir l'odeur créée par Christophe Laudamiel (Les Christophs'). ... today is the last day of this year's Art Basel Miami Beach fair. The Vienna-based gallery Martin Janda was among the exhibitors - and showed works by Svenja Deininger (excellent, usually!), Jakob Kolder - and Roman Signer. Signer, another one of those fabulously funny Swiss artists besides Fischli & Weiss, was present with his "Sand Column" from 2008, which, in a way, reminded me of Constantin Brancusi. Horizontally, of course.

... I know that it's kind of bizarre to create a blog-post with LAMPS (of all things) from Pyongyang metro stations and public buildings whilst everyone else is talking about the crisis and tensions that have recently arisen all the more vehemently between North and South Korea. But since an article of mine came out, too, where I look back on this summer's trip to the CITY BEHIND GLASS, as I call it, I wanted to seize the occasion and show you some images. I can only repeat the point that I make in my article, written from a traveller's, no, a tourist's point of view. Going to North Korea and visiting the country, being taken to numerous places of interest (from a Korean perspective, needless to say) on your trip, all of this doesn't mean in the least that you GET TO KNOW the country. Far from that, or even the contrary, upon leaving this infinitely closed, bizarre regime, you feel like you know less than ever before, and you even doubt, in a way, that anything you got to see (because it was SHOWN TO YOU, of course) was real and actually exists for the people of North Korea and Pyongyang - somehow, I couldn't get BAUDRILLARD's theories concerning the "simulacrum" out of my head. Or, to say it with Saussure - the signified has been disconnected from the signifyer ...
... comme je viens de le dire en anglais : suite à la publication d'un article que j'ai rédigé et qui résume le voyage que j'ai fait cet été en Corée du Nord, je vous montre quelques photos de LAMPES que j'ai prises dans ce bizarre de pays. Et je voudrais souligner encore, et en français aussi, ce que je dis dans mon article : la personne qui visite ce régime totalitaire, au moment de son départ, n'aura nullement l'impression (s'il s'agit d'une personne dotée d'une intelligence et d'une perspicacité au moins et pas nécessairement plus que moyennes) d'avoir pu expérimenter un morceau de "réalité". On n'a pas le droit d'explorer des choses, de faire des découvertes (aussi petites qu'elles soient...), de regarder de plus près - tout ce qu'on y fait, c'est attendre que quelqu'un daigne vous montrer quelque chose. Quelque chose dont le régime pense que cela vaut la peine d'être montré, bien entendu. Le résultat : on part, on s'en va, on a l'impression de laisser derrière un pays dont on sait moins de choses que si l'on n'y était jamais allé ...
... dopo il viaggio che ho fatto questa estate e prendendo come occasione immediata la pubblicazione d'un articolo che ho scritto su questo viaggio, che mi ha portato in Corea del Nord, vi mostro qualche immagine di lampada della metropolitana a Pyongyang, nei musei o negli hotel dove ci hanno trasportati. E anche in italiano mi pare necessario sottolineare il punto centrale che ho cercato di sviluppare nel mio articolo: a Pyongyang si va preparati, non ci sono turisti a cui "capita" di andare in Corea del Nord. Dunque, tanto più assurdo mi pare tutto il gioco di confusione, di propaganda ininterrotta, di venir portati a luoghi "d'interesse" (dal punto di vista delle guide oppure dell'agenzia di turismo, nazionale, anche ciò va senza dire) - anche il fatto di rendersi conto, per esempio, che il mio gruppo di viaggiatori ha visto esattamente le stesse due fermate di metropolitana che erano state mostrate a tutti i visitatori ufficiali del paese e della città - fa che, alla fine, non si è più sicuri di ciò che sia realtà, o messinscena continua. In Corea si va, ma il paese non si vede ...

... I'm talking about the COLOUR, not the state of undressed-ness, mind you very much. As a matter of fact, the Austrian art combo gelitin (formerly known as: gelatin) were invited by the director of the Belvedere art museum, Agnes Husslein, to create the first in a row of artist's Christmas trees (the other ones will follow in the years to come, should you wonder). Since Mrs Husslein already invited gelatin (which was the correct name back then...) to create a site-specific installation outside the Rupertinum in Salzburg some years ago, the "Arc de Triomphe" which had to be removed after very vehement protestations kicked in, the "Nude-cloured Christmas tree" kind of rings a bell. Or is it just me, again ? ...

... dunque, la direttrice del museo Belvedere a Vienna, Agnes Husslein, ha invitato il gruppo d'artisti gelitin (prima: gelatin) a creare la loro versione dell'albero di Natale. Il risultato, nudo e crudo, un'interpretazione comunque abbastanza, uffi, che dire, osée del motivo. Ricordiamoci che un altro lavoro commissionato dalla signora Husslein, qualche anno fa, il cosiddetto "Arc de Triomphe" del gruppo a Salisburgo, ha dovuto essere rimosso dopo forti e lunghe protestazioni di qualche spirito ristretto. Un'altra cosa: secondo me, sapete come si riconosce l'inizio dell'inverno a Vienna - all'improvviso, ci sono TANTI ITALIANI in città (ma venite a causa di Natale, vero?), tutti coperti dai loro piumini MONCLER - che carini che siete ...

Après tout, je vous recommande vivement le site Etsy où vous pourrez également acheter (non, je n'insiste pas ...) la monture. Car le texte qui accompagne ce produit quand même plutôt extraordinaire en dit long : "Trop de gens à la fête ? Tu veux être la star, au centre de l'attention de tous ? Tu veux être la personne de laquellee tout le monde se souvient le lendemain ?" Quoi répondre, sinon OUAIS OUAIS OUAAAAAIS. Eh ben, allez-y, achetez, achetez ...

... after interviewing him three years ago (time goes by anything but slowly, I can tell you that...), I already had a certain idea that Siggi Hofer is in no way averse to the world of fashion and style. And since we are witnessing a certain Bernhard Willhelm craziness in this city, it's only logical that one of the most widely recognised artists from Vienna's up-and-coming scene (=SH) turned to the "fashion professor" (=BW) for the outfit he wears in the ad/invitation to his latest exhibition (opens on Tuesday, Nov. 16 at Galerie Meyer Kainer, btw.). "The new Siggi Hofer" sports a BW-total look, and is photographed by Maria Ziegelböck. Is it fashion, is it irony, is it art - and, last but not least, do we like it ? ... 
... quoi dire, sinon que c'est tout de même impressionnant. Siggi Hofer, l'un des plus reconnus représentants de la "jeune" scène de l'art viennois, s'habille totalement en Bernhard Willhelm pour l'affiche qui annonce et accompagne son exposition. Voilà tout. En effet, j'étais prévenu parce que je l'ai croisé il n'y a pas trop longtemps dans une boîte très trendy (enfin bon...), et je lui ai demandé s'il avait participé à la séance de photos organisée par un journal où de jeunes artistes portaient de beaux vêtements et étaient invités à parler de la mode. Eh ben non, m'a-t-il répondu, MAIS j'ai collaboré avec Bernhard Willhelm pour la production d'une affiche. Voici le résultat, l'expo ouvre ses portes ce mardi ...

... some days ago, I received this very fascinating fashion news item: Austrian fashion wunderkind (well, "kind", but you know...) Lena Hoschek, who I recently featured as the author of a cheesy and mountainous style blog, recently dedicated her creative might to the world-famous sweet producer PEZ. Probably when brwosing through images from the PEZ archive of vintage advertising motifs, Mrs Hoschek must have found the 1950s inspiration which totally matches her personal fashion aesthetics AND current fashion trends - and created new party dresses for the stylish "PEZ ladies" (who I have never met, but that doesn't mean anything - and may be about to change?) ...

La tradizionale e molto famosa ditta PEZ, conosciuta per le sue caramelle e, soprattutto, per i piccoli dispositivi di plastica che sono spesso decorati con motivi di film conosciuti (tipo Star Wars e Paperino), ha invitato la designer a creare degli abiti per le signorine che rappresentano il marchio. Vabbe', abbiamo visto tutto di cui abbiamo bisogno. Domanda: il prossimo passo, logico se non mi sbaglio, sarebbe di disegnare una collezione di dispositivi PEZ con motivi fashion - vero? ...
... was walking around town today, actually had just picked up some theatre tickets and was on my way to Vienna's "City" (haha!) when I passed by the Institut Français de Vienne and my look was caught by these, well, let's call them "photo installations", why not, on the fence surrounding the garden of beautiful Palais Clam-Gallas (which never fails to awaken some memories from my early days at university, as a matter of fact). So far for efficient pr initiatives - there you had the huge photos alright, but nothing pointed out that they belonged to the photo exhibiton Horizons sporting work by Antoine Gonin which will open at the IFV tonight in the context of Eyes On, Vienna's month of photography. The exhibition will remain open until November 30.
Les photos d'Antoine Gonin ont capturé - et cela de la plus belle façon imaginable (c'est adorable, des photos en noir et blanc, quand elles sont d'une telle qualité) - des paysages de France, et c'est donc avec cette exposition, intitulée "Horizons", que l'Institut Français de Vienne fait sa petite contribution au mois de la photographie (comme il était appelé autrefois, maintenant c'est Eyes On - pourquoi, déjà ?). Pas mal, hein? Pour l'instant, je donnerais le petit conseil aux responsables de l'IFV de mentionner quelque part que les photos qu'on a attachées en format très impressionnant à la clôture qui entoure le terrain du palais accueillant l'IFV renvoient à l'intérieur de l'institut (si elles le font, d'ailleurs - je ne suis même pas sûr), sinon l'effet médiatique de cette petite installation risque bel et bien de se perdre...
Allora, quando ho fatto la mia piccola passeggiata di domenica pomeriggo, mi sono reso conto che queste belle fotografie realizzate da Antoine Gonin sono state appese al recinto che circonda il fondo del palazzo Clam-Gallas a Vienna, cioè l'Istituto Culturale Francese di questa bella (ah sì, quanto è bella - vero? ...) città. Paesaggi della Francia ci vengono mostrati, e che belli sono, anzi che belle, perché delle foto si tratta, ma quanto è strano vedersi confrontato all'arte nella città senza vedere né il minimo indizio dettagliando di che cosa si potrebbe trattare. Non è che tutti andranno alla ricerca di tracce della mostra nel programma del mese della fotografia a Vienna, vero? Vabbe', comunque, suppongo che la mostra che viene aperta stasera e che rimane aperta al pubblico fino al 30 novembre troverà il suo pubblico ...
