TIMELESS, not beastly

Timelessly beautiful and absolutely not a beast, wouldn't you agree?

... I mean, no comment, really. Hardly any comment necessary at all. Joan Collins' very own cosmetics range? Irresistible. She's so versatile, right? One moment she sells you a chocolate bar, immediately afterwards it's her own beauty collection...

So convincing! I'm only wondering - what happens to her mouth when she has to say the word "skincare" for the first time after approximately five seconds? I wouldn't exactly interpret that expression as joy and glee. But then again, who cares...?

So, are we surprised that she has "always done my own makeup for films and photo shoots" (see the little video I posted above)? Well, I am not, quite frankly. Do we believe her? We do believe her every single word. After all she pretty well is Alexis Morell Carrington Colby Dexter Rowan, isn't she?

Bathing in champagne and scrubbing her luxurious body with pearls of caviar, always plotting against someone totally innocent. That's how we were brought up to imagine her (us, fashion editors growing up in the 80s that is). Alexis, not Joan of course, but is there really any significant difference?

Lovely, lovely, lovely. And just look at that marvellous nail polish, sorry, "lacquer", in the tiny little bottle that looks like a very corporate very high skyscraper in Denver. Isn't it adorable? Never mind the quality of the product contained therein, I'd almost be tempted to say. Were I not grasping for breath after hearing Mrs Collins state, in the video promoting her "Timeless Beauty" line on sale via QVC: "I believe that looking good and feeling great is the right of every woman. Because beauty is timeless." And so it is and shall forever be ...

OLYMPIC olfaction

things we can learn from perfume bottles:
the colour of SPORT is red, no doubt about that

... just as the art world is greatly excited and in upheaval whenever the Venice Art Biennial and documenta take place in the same year, the universe of sports(men) is upside down when Summer Olympics and the final of European soccer championships coincide. Interestingly, this also has a notable impact on the realm of beauty and cosmetics since no fragrance known to man seems to be left untouched by this athlectic (well...) frenzy. "Sport" versions of almost any scent on the market (interesting: almost all of them bear the "Sport" label in red on their bottles...) have been flooding our offices and the drugstore of your choice these past few months, you can find a selection of them pictured above and below, from Dolce and Gabbana's the one Sport via Givenchy's Play Sport, Armani's Code Sport to Boss Sport and Kenzo Sport, none of the big names is missing. I hope you won't mind me saying that I'm happy and relieved Chanel didn't feel inclined to touch on "Pour Monsieur" or "Egoïste" (even though the "Egoïste Platinum" version is awful enough, as it were) - they did bring out an "Eau extrême" (my oh my...) of "Allure Homme Sport" though. You know what, I shall even dare to give you a rough overall verdict: even familiar and rather charming, not too ostenatious olfactory compositions are, whenever they have to be reinterpreted to fit the "Sport" label, modified beyond recognizability and, I hope you don't mind me saying that, thus become "masculine" in a rather blatant, and frequently not very attractive way. But again, you'll tell me that athletes do need more efficient fragrances and that would indeed seem to be the case, my nose can confirm after sniffing through the selection of Sport fragrances you can see here ...
