BLUT on all ends

... one of Vienna's most succesful and active accessory designers, Eva Blut, is giving signs of new and, possibly, reinforced life. From May 23 through June 2 she will host a temporary pop-up shop with interdisciplinary character. According to the press release this is one of the "warm up events" leading to the opening of Eva's first flagship store later this year (isn't that good news? it seems to make such a difference for designers to be able to run their own shop in Vienna in terms of building up a fan following and faithful clientele...). Shoppers can indulge in Eva's cleverly constructed collections from noon to 6 pm in Westbahnstraße 22 in Vienna's 7th district. Thereafter, DJs, visual artists and performance artists (eg. Gerhard Veismann, Bruce LaMongo or Michail Michailov) will contribute their part to this creative experience. Special treat: the Eurovision Song Contest night on May 26 will (of course) be at the centre of a public viewing session. For programme details click here ...

Eva Buchleitner, la femme derrière la griffe "Eva Blut"

... l'une des créatrices d'accessoires les plus actives et engagées ces derniers temps, Eva Blut, va ouvrir les portes d'une boutique temporaire à caractère "pop-up" à partir du 23 mai (et jusqu'au 2 juin). D'après le communiqué de presse, cet événement est l'un des premiers menant à l'ouverture d'une première boutique-phare d'Eva Blut à Vienne cet automne (n'est-ce pas une bonne idée ?). Le people viennois est donc invité à la visiter dans le local sis Westbahnstraße 22, dans le 7ème arrondissement viennois, pour regarder de plus près ses collections. La boutique est ouverte de midi jusqu'à 18 heures tous les jours, et après ce sont des artistes et DJs qui prennent le relais. BIKE clutch

... when I met Eva Blut this summer to talk about accessory design for an article that was published in the newspaper, she showed me a prototype of what appeared to be a bike-clutch that can easily be attached to the frame of a bicycle. And I loved the idea. I truly appreciate Eva's very neat design approach, and the cleverness of her elaborate constructions. This also goes for her handbags, but this interesting attempt at creating a bag for urban bikers is a step in another, more industrial design oriented direction. Eva will present her vélo bags during Vienna Design Week, which is up in October. A special bike-based bag launch will take place on October 1st, hosted by "Fix Dich" (Zieglergasse 78, 1070 Vienna), starting at 4 pm ... quand j'ai rencontré Eva Blut cet été, lors d'une interview réalisée en préparation d'un article paru sur le journal, elle m'a déjà montré un prototype de la minaudière à vélo (c'est moi qui dis ça, Eva n'aurait sûrement pas parlé d'une minaudière, soyez rassurés ...) qui va être lancée pendant la Vienna Design Week qui aura lieu début d'octobre. J'aime beaucoup ce concept d'un sac à main qui s'attache facilement au châssis d'un vélo et qui est pourvue d'un STYLE FACTOR de loin supérieur à tout ce qu'on connaît du domaine des accessoires pour cyclistes. Il est grand temps qu'un créateur s'en rende compte, et je suis convaincu qu'il y a un grand potentiel derrière cette approche tout à fait originale ...

... today, a quick (and first) look back on some of the works of art that caught my eye on the 2011 edition of ViennaFair, Vienna's most important official art fair (as the name explains pretty well) ... aujourd'hui, avant que cela ne soit totalement décalé, un petit aperçu de l'édition actuelle de la foire VIENNAFAIR qui a fermé ses portes il y a une semaine ... for its poignant wit, I liked "This is not art ..." (2011) by Bulgarian artist Pravdoliub Ivanov ... j'ai trouvé amusant l'installation "THIS IS NOT ART" du bulgare Pravdoliub Ivanov ...

... and then of course there was an art performance by Jakob Lena Knebl who had himself transformed into a MEMPHIS DESIGN VASE or something, I didn't take a picture myself but was lucky enough to run into fashion designer EVA BLUT who sent me the image she took of the performance, so THANK YOU EVA!!! ... et puis il y avait encore, et c'était assez drôle ça, la performance de Jakob Lena Knebl qui s'est fait transformer en vase style MEMPHIS DESIGN, la photo a été mise à ma disposition par Eva Blut, ouis, la créatrice d'accessoires raffinés, que j'ai croisé et qui m'a envoyé un MMS quand je lui ai dit que je n'avais pas pris de photo, c'est ravissant, ça, d'ailleurs ...

GET ON MY BACK

... still working hard to recollect all my impressions from Paris Fashion Week (for the high-fashion part, and the international one, please consult the newspaper and its supplement), so now let's talk about Eva Buchleitner's latest collection ...


With her label Eva Blut, Eva designs clever and solution-oriented accessories that aren't only of help if you want to carry your stuff around, they're also really beautiful.


When I met Eva outside the Vienna Fashion Week veneue, we talked about how difficult it was to find nice-looking back-packs. Really, that's so true - somehow it seems impossible to bridge the gap between casual street and sportswear and boring leather pouches dangling off your spine.


In her spring 2011 collection, Eva presented some very nice back-pack solutions, and versatile they are, too. She also continues her new "Cubism" line in new colours. The belts (or shall we call them corsets?) are real eye-catchers, don't you find ...
