A WHIFF of Surrealism (in bottlettes)

scented message in a bottlette?

... what with this entire (and totally justified) Schiaparelli frenzy we've seen so far in 2012 (the exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum, the imminent relaunch of her label) I said to myself that I'd love to smell her legendary fragrance "Shocking". When looking at current offers on Ebay I quickly found out that I was not prepared to pay the amounts of money asked for by most dealers ...

words fail to describe my newly found enthusiasm for *nips*

... the handy alternative I found was a pack of "Famous Name Perfumes packaged in nips" from the 60s or maybe even 50s. Had you ever heard of a perfume nip, not to mention a nip bottlette (a great candidate for my "mot de l'an", by the way)? Sure enough I had not, but un-nipping is a rather delicate action, and let me assure you that the fragrance is apparently pretty well preserved in its glass receptacle. I just opened "Shocking" and find it a shockingly intense, very boudoiresque, befittingly surrealist composition indeed. Maybe Mr della Valle will gratify her fans with a relaunch of the frgrance, too? ...

indispensable knowledge: "how to use nip bottlettes"

the original bottle rings a "Jean Paul Gaultier" bell, doesn't it?
