PARISIAN e-shop luxury

... Paris-based Austrian designer Michaela Bürger recently launched her first e-shop, which represents a wonderful opportunity for fans of exquisite knit and crochet accessories to purchase exclusive items right on time for Christmas. Isn't that indeed a nice surprise?

KNIT girl

all photos (c) Nicolas Receveur

... it's an obvious and well-known fact that the spring/summer season is a bit difficult for certain domains of fashion, for example milliners, furriers - and experts of knitwear will find it more of a challenge to sell their designs throughout the warm season. It's all the more impressive to see how the young Paris-based designer from Austria Michaela Buerger, who I appreciate immensely for her clever approach of the marché de la mode, adapts her collection by focussing on interesting, slightly vintage-looking swimsuits and beach accessories like the oversized shawls. Bravo, I say ...

... and to top things off, Michael was invited by the all-important Fédération française de la haute couture to present her collection on the upcoming Sidaction gala during Couture week - just take a look at this album published by Vogue Paris to check out the very important audience that attended the gala last year. Good luck to Michaela, then ...

GROUP SHOW Vienna in Paris

watch out for the Austrian Fashion Showcase from September 3-6
in Paris, Première Classe, Porte-de-Versailles

... the first few days of September (3 to 6, to be exact) will see a remarkable initiative materializing on the Porte-de-Versailles edition of Première Classe in Paris: for the first time, an "Austrian Fashion Showcase" brings together a total of 17 accessory labels with the aim to attract the attention of fashion buyers through such a collective effort. Congratulations from me, and I would really like to hope that the organising team around Camille Boyer will see their venture crowned by success.
Quite fascinating, too, that the Austrian Fashion Showcase was put together by Camille and her partner Marlene Agreiter who have equally taken over the organisation of Vienna's "Kooperationsbörse-event (which brings together designers and production facilities).
And isn't it impressive in how little time they made this possible, which is all the more interesting as no other institution has succeeded in putting together (or effectively tried to do so, and I'm not talking about initiatives taken by designers in their own right) a comparable B2B-event reaching out beyond the boarders of Austria up until today. But let's not look back, let's look ahead, that's always the best thing to do I guess, and so I'd like to wish everyone involved with that Austrian Fashion Showcase, designers as well as organisers, the best of luck ...

accessory design by "local hero" Michaela Buerger will be on show

did you know that Anna Aichinger does accessories?

NEWCOMERS and nominees

a rather oriental look by Manuela Baumgartner, I had to think of opium caves, for some reason ...

... you can say what you may, in terms of PIZAZZ, the annual festival for fashion & photography is probably the most striking event on the Vienna fashion scene, as it comes complete with some glimpses at the REAL fashion world out there (even though the DRAMATIS PERSONAE are very similar to those at competing events such as the Vienna Awards for Fashion and Lifestyle or the annual MQ Vienna Fashion Week). Last week, Marios Schwab came to Vienna for the kick-off-event and I was lucky enough to meet him for a long interview, but that's another story. What I wanted to tell you, right here and right now, is that the nominees for this year's AUSTRIAN FASHION AWARDS were also made public, and there is, IMHO, at least one surprise and one new appearance. But first of all I'll give you the complete list and would like to congratulate all nominees: for the Award sponsored by the Austrian Ministry of Cultural Affairs, George Bezhanishvili (no stranger to readers of ParisVienne...) will compete with Manuela Baumgartner; for the Fashion Award of the City of Vienna, it's meshit (do read that "mesh-it", and not "me-shit", which is not what Ida Steixner and Lena Krampf had in mind) vs. Diptych (Ali Zedtwitz and Valerie Lange); and for the Award for international PR, it's Christina Berger vs. Michaela Buerger.

more by Manuela Baumgartner ...

Now, two things - I find it very interesting to see a new name appear on the list of nominees and potential award winners, and that is Manuela Baumgartner. She studied at Vienna's University of Applied Arts under Raf Simons and Véronqiue Branquinho and graduated in 2008, which was followed by her getting some work experience in London, at Marios Schwab's eponymous fashion label. Always good to see that the Vienna fashion scene isn't completely ebbing off, and that there are new labels appearing on the city's fashion scene (I mean, of course there are always new labels, but some of them seem to be more into producing nice lookbooks and organizing launch events than about making interesting fashion that is more than sloppy floppy drapings that look like heaps of cloth thrown onto a mannequin, if you know what I mean ...). On the other hand, and I know that it's not always been very easy for hard-working and very ambitious Michaela Buerger as part of the
extended Austrian fashion scene, I find it a very good signal that the name of this designer, who has lived and worked in Paris for years where she built her own label, who is represented by the same showroom as Marios Schwab and Peter Pilotto, who is successfully collaborating with international brands like Maison Fabre for gloves, Anne Valérie Hash for select knitwear, and Vienna's Mühlbauer millinery, is about to break into a sphere where some official recognition may be hers. At least that's what being a first-time finalist for one of the country's most important fashion awards could stand for, no? ...

and even more by Manuela Baumgartner ...

some glimpses at Michaela Buerger's first accessory collection for men for fw11 - wow!

JOINED forces

... since I truly and honestly consider MICHAELA BUERGER to be one of the finest fashion designers of her generation equipped with an outstanding talent to identify her skills and the wishes of her potential customer (and that's unfortunately something many others all too easily shrug off when it comes to creating fashion), I am very happy to be able to announce that her collaboration with ANNE VALERIE HASH entitled HAND IN HAND which I already talked about at an earlier point continues in the fall 2011 collection of Anne Valérie, and this time a piece created by Michaela, who specialises in knitwear of the finest sort, even made it onto the runway (the cardigan you see above), and that's something I'd like to congratulate Michaela on - I'm sure that we are going to see more from her in the future ... je vous ai déjà parlé de Michaela Buerger, la jeune Autrichienne basée à Paris et qui a un talent tout à fait remarquable de se concentrer sur l'essentiel et d'identifier ses atouts et les désirs d'une potentielle clientèle, ainsi que de sa collaboration avec la griffe parisienne Anne Valérie Hash.

MARTIN MARGIELA x OPENING CEREMONY

... just a quick word, or even, only some images from the collaboration that was announced yesterday for fall 2011: MM6 MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA will create a capsule collection for New York-based retailer Opening Ceremony (and thus follow in the footsteps of the Rodarte sisters...). Well, looking forward to that we are, aren't we? And, lest you should wonder, there is even a cross-reference to my last blog post, as Austrian-French designer Michaela Bürger is also represented by OC ...

Troppo perfetto, no? ...

EN VITRINE chez COLETTE

... a quick one before I am allowed to expand on my warm feelings for the Bazar de l'Hôtel de Ville in Paris: apparently, Austrian designer Michaela Buerger, no stranger to readers of ParisVienne, was promoted by Colette window decorators and is now very prominently featured on rue Saint Honoré in Paris ... la créatrice autrichienne Michaela Buerger, que j'ai, pour de bonnes raisons, souvent mentionnée dans ce blog, est actuellement en vitrine chez Colette ; félicitations, je dis ... la designer austriaca Michaela Buerger della quale ho parlato non di rado nelle pagine di questo blog occupa attualmente una posizione molto esposta in vetrina da Colette a Parigi : felicitazioni e AUGURI ...

HAND in HAND

... the last time I met Michaela Bürger in Paris, she was energetic and ambitous as ever before. She explained to me that in her opinion, co-branding is one of the best, and most successful ways for a young and independent designer to gradually move on.

Michaela continues to work for Maison Fabre, and she added a little knitwear-collection for Mühlbauer headwear to her range of activities.

Anne-Valérie Hash "Hand in Hand" Michaela Bürger

What's more, for spring 2011 she collaborated with ever so lovely Anne-Valérie Hash for a special knitwear collection called "Hand in Hand". I must say, Michaela never seems to rest ...
